UK Gambling Commission Wants Fairer and Safer Market

UK Gambling Commission Wants Fairer and Safer Market

It has been announced that the Gambling Commission for England, Scotland and Wales has established a brand-new business plan for this and the next year.

The commission will still mainly focus on the protection of the consumers…

…as well as preventing potential harms coming from gambling while raising standards in this industry at the same time.

More Details on the Plan

The UK gambling regulatory body wants to reach certain goals and a milestone in the next 12 months, which is actually just a tiny part of a huge business strategy it has in motion through 2021.

“We put consumers at the heart of our approach, which requires us to strike a balance between the enjoyment people get from gambling and the risks that gambling can present,” Commission chief executive, Neil McArthur, said.

“Managing those risks is not just the responsibility of the individual consumer, and that is why we assess risks by looking at the providers of gambling, the products that are offered and the places in which people gamble. Our approach allows us to respond to emerging risks and issues, whilst constantly seeking ways to drive up standards,” he added.

Regulator’s Priorities

The UK Gambling Commission plans on publishing various actions that will be a priority when it comes to protecting customers from the harms of excessive gambling.

The plan is to monitor the usage of credit cards for funding gambling and control the usage of Category B gaming machines.

They also want to evaluate current measures for protecting players of Category C and D machines…

…while also investigating the design of the game.

The gambling commission may also make some changes and incorporate new regulations if they find out that the current controls don’t meet the necessary requirements.

Prevention of Gambling Problems

The commission has also announced the launch of a new National Strategy to Reduce Gambling Harms next month…

…while they will also focus on responsible advertising as well because GC will work more closely with the Advertising Standards Authority.

They will try to further investigate the impact that gambling ments can have on children, young people and also people for the vulnerable category.

The regulatory body will then reveal the results from their investigation and plan their next steps and actions for gambling prevention and treatment initiatives.

Raising Industry Standards

The UKGC will also continue trying to raise the industry standards by setting up the best conditions for the licensees…

…and promote them during the events and through publications.

There is a plan to also evaluate current operators in order to make sure they operate according to the standards.

And also, somewhere during 2019, there will be a tender for the third National Lottery license, which the commission will present via a series of events.
