The Wyoming Gaming Commission has issued a firm warning to the public about a rising tide of unregulated online gambling platforms offering services illegally within the state. These sites, often presenting casino-style games like slots and poker, are not authorized under Wyoming law and lack any form of consumer protection.
While digital sports betting and fantasy sports contests are legal and regulated by the state, real-money online casino games remain strictly prohibited. This legal distinction is one the Commission says many residents may not fully understand, particularly as offshore operators continue to aggressively target Wyoming s.
Despite being barred under current legislation, online casino platforms—some posing as local businesses by ing as Wyoming-based LLCs or displaying Wyoming mailing addresses—are finding ways to appeal to residents. The Commission was unequivocal in its stance, stating that these operators are not sanctioned and function entirely outside the state’s regulatory framework.
“We want to make it unequivocally clear: no online casino, iGaming, or sweepstakes site is licensed by the Wyoming Gaming Commission and they are all operating illegally in Wyoming,” said Nicholas Larramendy, the Commission’s Executive Director.
Larramendy also pointed out that many of these illegal operations are based overseas, which complicates enforcement efforts. While the Commission does pursue action when feasible, its jurisdiction doesn’t extend to international entities, limiting what it can do to shut them down or hold them able.
In contrast to the murky world of illegal casino gaming, the state’s legal and regulated sports betting industry continues to expand. In May 2024, the Fanatics Sportsbook became the 21st online operator to receive a license in Wyoming, demonstrating the Commission’s commitment to growing the lawful side of the market.
The Commission encouraged individuals interested in betting online to consult its official website for an up-to-date list of licensed and approved operators. By sticking to authorized platforms, s can ensure that they are protected under Wyoming’s gaming laws and have access to in the event of a dispute.
The Wyoming Gaming Commission underscored its core mission of preserving the integrity of gaming and shielding the public from harm. Officials urged anyone with doubts about the legitimacy of an online gambling site to reach out to the Commission directly.
“Our primary responsibility is to protect the integrity of gaming in Wyoming and safeguard its citizens. We urge anyone with questions about the legality of a particular online gambling site or service to our office directly,” the Commission stated.
By remaining vigilant and informed, residents can avoid the pitfalls of illegal gambling and contribute to a safer, more transparent gaming environment within the state.
