Six-Month Period Brings GambleAware £5.4m in Donations, More Funds Needed to Fight Problems

During the period of six months up leading up to September 30th, the UK charity GambleAware has received £5.4m in donations. The independent organization cooperates with the Gambling Commission to deliver the National Strategy to Reduce Gambling Harms.

The entire system is based on voluntary donations from the gambling industry, and the list of brands contributing on a regular basis is gradually growing. The charity institution s multiple projects and strategies all of which aim to protect the community and raise the awareness of gambling-related harms.

Extensive List of Donors

GVC remains the top contributor with £1.46m, which represents the same amount that the gambling operator donated during the previous fiscal period.

Expressing in multiple forms…

GVC Holdings PLC has donated its football sponsorship assets to the charity organization and their “Bet Regret” campaign. The purpose of the generous donation is to motivate football fans to moderate their betting habits, particularly when placing bets while being drunk, bored with chasing loses.

Among the other contributors were, William Hill which donated £1m, the same amount as last year and Bet365 with £868k. Through its Grosvenor Casinos and Mecca Bingo brands, Rank Group has so far donated £284,500.

Multiple Projects to Assist Problem Gamblers

Earlier in the year, the charity organization announced that it would be funding an additional £3.9m to treat problem gambling.

… £2.35m will go towards expanding infrastructure for in-person gambling addiction treatment in the UK. This is among the most necessary pillars to establish firm and reliable to those who need it.

£705,000 will go to the National Gambling Helpline, a project done in collaboration with GamCare. Starting October 1st, consumers who have experienced or are suffering from gambling-related harms can the Helpline on Freephone 0808 8020 133 or via webchat. The service is available 24/7.

Another £435,000 is planned for making computerized Cognitive Behavioural Therapy…

…accessible to people. The remaining part of £438,000 will go towards developing a peer-to-peer gambling addiction treatment program.

Focusing on Minors

GambleAware also ed forces with Parent Zone, a digital family life specialist. Two brands will put efforts to educate families and draw their attention to minors and numerous gaming-related issues which could result from exposure to non-suitable content and activities.

To make the project more -friendly…

…they included an online quiz and a glossary. By using these options, parents will be able to explore the topic more comprehensively and learn more about how to protect the younger population while playing games on the Internet.
