Oregon has made sports betting via mobile devices legal and now this particular vertical is ready to take off thanks to a cooperation between Oregon Lottery and SBTech. The two brands have tly launched Scoreboard sportsbook.
This is Oregon’s first mobile wagering product. It lets players place a wide range of bets (live, futures and prop) on various sporting events.
Oregon State Lottery and SBTech have signed a contract in June this year…
…which also covers land-based betting, retail kiosks to be rolled out and more. US president for SBTech, Melissa Riahei, comments:
“We are thrilled to be working hand-in-hand with the Oregon Lottery to launch this exciting new form of entertainment in the state. The Oregon Lottery is true a pioneer in this space, being the first lottery in the US to launch online sports betting.
We look forward to providing our innovative and experience-driven products, alongside our full range of managed services, to make this endeavor a huge success for the state of Oregon and its citizens.”
Barry Pack of Oregon Lottery is excited about this market launch. He said that SBTech is an invaluable partner and that they are looking forward to providing engaging, entertaining and seamless experience to players.
The roll out of mobile vertical comes later than projected: it was supposed to happen in September, in order to coincide with the beginning of NFL season. It was delayed to fine tune the product.
The provider wanted to make sure that players get as smooth an experience as possible.
Over the first three years, lottery has projected the $141.2 million revenue, with total handle expected to be $1.6 billion.
Oregon is the third World Lottery Association member that has signed a sports betting contract with SBTech. Sweden’s Svenska Spel and Finland’s Veikkaus were the first two.
Bettors who wish to place wagers via Scoreboard app will be limited to $250,000 – this highest possible bet was decided on by Oregon Lottery.
Some experts think that the limit is still too high and that it could lead to symptoms of problem gambling being developed by some players.
Treatment specialist Philip Yassenoff remarks: “It increases potentially the risk for those individuals if they’re able to bet tens of thousands of dollars at one time. The amount of damage that can be done to them financially or emotionally in a short period of time is concerning to me as a therapist.”
