Nevada Introduces New Strategy for Problem Gamblers

The state of Nevada has always been one of the top locations for casino lovers. Its gaming offering attracts a number of visitors from different parts of the world. That’s why the state made a decision to introduce a brand-new program for problem gamblers who are looking for help. The name of the program is Project Worth and its purpose is to connect players who consider that gambling has control over their lives with quality resources.

The Nevada Department of Health and Human Problem Gambling Services has just announced that the project is oriented to help residents with gambling issues. The entire amount of money to fund the program will be provided by the state which will additionally assure “treatment centers in northern and southern Nevada and call, text or chat helplines.”

It is designated for players with ongoing issues or those with a single case of problem gambling.

What Was Said

Commenting on the new project, chair of the Advisory Committee of Problem Gambling, Alan Feldman noted:

“Project Worth was created to help people in the state of Nevada learn that everyone is worthy of if they find themselves experiencing any of a range of harms from gambling — from mild to moderate to severe. We want Nevadans to know that if they struggle with any kind of a gambling problem, there are treatment resources available on both the state and national levels to help them redefine their personal worth. And these resources are free or very low cost.”

Current Situation

At the moment, Nevada is home to several treatment centers that are completely under state control. Three of them are situated in the southern part of the state and three in the northern area. Centers in the south are placed all around Las Vegas including the International Problem Gambling Center, Mental Health Counseling and Consulting and Finding Hope Therapy. Additionally, there are centers in the North Nevada like Bristlecone Family Resources in Reno, Reno Problem Gambling Center and New Frontier Treatment Center in Fallon.

Those who don’t want to travel downtown could reach out to the National Council on Problem Gambling which supplies customers with an online chat service and 24/7 number. Players can also reach the experts through Nevada 2-1-1, an online portal where residents can search for the appropriate services.

The brand-new project will “encourage Nevadans to seek treatment for problem gambling to enhance the safety, health, and welfare of all Nevadans”. The program is also backed up by the state’s Division of Public and Behavioral Health and has ongoing from local Advisory Committee on Problem Gambling, established in 2005.
