According to the Casino.org report, Maverick CEO Eric Persson has been encouraging employees from 19 cardrooms to unionize. About 1900 workers of the company will the union, with most of the coming from the table game and food sector. CEO Persson said:
“This gives employees a stronger voice in the legislative process. Partnering with the Teamsters is something I intended to do when Maverick first came to the state.”
At the moment, the percentage of Washington state is different in some way as it connects around 18.8% of employees in unions. It results in 650,000 state residents being involved in some kind of alliance.
Maverick Gaming unionization efforts would devastate the intentions of other casino operators.
Station Casinos in Las Vegas have been firmly against unionization efforts. The operator has even rejected to approve legal votes by employees to enter unions, insisting on a court decision regarding the matter. It seems that Maverick Gaming’s CEO may have had other motives when pledging for union…
The state of Washington has current problems with sports betting introduction. Teamsters 117 union are against the inclusion of the option, at least in the way the state intends.
According to the Teamsters’ beliefs, current legislation favors the state’s tribes over commercial venues and excludes cardrooms from offering sportsbook options. With the Maverick Gaming union, the Teamster 117 alliance will be in a better position to oppose legislative initiatives and insist on modifications.
Over the previous years, Maverick Gaming has been looking to increase its presence in the Washington gambling sphere. The operator purchased Wizards Casino last year and expanded its cardroom portfolio. However, the company doesn’t intend to slow down its efforts. Maverick continues to add new properties to its gaming offer which opens the space for additional unification of employees.
Persson concluded:
“As we pick up more properties, we’d expect more union hip.”
