Maryland Casino Revenue in December 2024 Sees Small Decline

Maryland’s six casinos collectively brought in $164.1 million from slot machines and table games during December 2024. This figure represents a modest 0.9% decline compared to the same month in 2023. Contributions from gaming revenue to the state reached $69.8 million, reflecting a slight 0.5% drop year-over-year.

Education Trust Fund Benefits Despite Decline

Out of the December contributions, $50.4 million was allocated to Maryland’s Education Trust Fund (ETF), which s the state’s public schools. While this amount showed a 0.5% decrease from December 2023, broader trends paint a more positive picture. In the first half of Fiscal Year 2025—covering July to December 2024—casino gaming revenue saw a 1.2% year-over-year increase. During this period, contributions to the state grew by 2.5%, with ETF funding rising by 2.6%.

Beyond education, Maryland’s casino-generated funds also local jurisdictions hosting these establishments, the horse racing industry, and small, minority- and women-owned businesses. The state’s six privately operated casinos feature diverse gaming options, including a variety of slot machines and table games, aimed at attracting a wide range of patrons.

Among Maryland’s casinos, MGM National Harbor secured the top spot in December 2024, generating $73.6 million in revenue—a 4% year-over-year increase. Live! Casino & Hotel followed, earning $59.1 million, though this marked a 2.4% decline compared to December 2023.

Horseshoe Casino Baltimore recorded $13.2 million, reflecting a notable 12.9% drop in revenue. Hollywood Casino Perryville and Ocean Downs Casino each brought in $7.1 million. However, their performance diverged, with Hollywood experiencing a 6% decrease, while Ocean Downs saw a slight 0.8% rise. Rocky Gap Casino Resort rounded out the group with $3.9 million, marking an 11.9% revenue decline.

The slight dip in December’s year-over-year figures highlights the combined effects of regional competition and seasonal trends. Despite this, Maryland’s gaming industry remains a vital contributor to the state’s economy.
