LeoVegas AB, who recently recruited Mattias Wedar as its latest O/CTO, has obtained a five-year gambling license from the Swedish Gambling Authority or Spelinspektionen.
The license allows this Stockholm-based company to open up an online casino and sports betting website…
…and it officially launched this Tuesday under the name, pixel.bet.
The Second License:
Pixel Digital Ltd got the green light to start with their betting operations. Interestingly enough, this is actually the second license it gained from the Swedish government.
The ultimate goal of the company is to dominate the live casino and online gambling venues…
…and through time, expand across the globe by focusing first on Sweden and Nordic areas in general.
The company received its first license on January 1, just when the newly-regulated Swedish market opened, and they were among the first to get their license from Spelinspektionen.
During the press conference, Pixel CEO, Eirik Christiansen, spoke about the new Swedish license…
…and said that the new license gives the opportunity to open the esports betting market to Swedes who love gaming tournaments.
“This will position us for continued expansion internationally,” Christiansen added.
In the past year, LeoVegas officially bought 51% of the stock of Malta-based company, pixel.bet.
That’s exactly when the company decided to mainly focus on Nordic markets, and which became reality on Tuesday when they obtained the license from Spelinspektionen.
Clearly enough, LeoVegas really wants to focus on the increasingly popular esports betting…
…since the esports tournament attendance is actually growing really rapidly.
According to the statistics, the total amount of wagers reached almost $7 billion during the last year and it is expected that the numbers will reach almost $14 billion by the year 2020.
For example, Pinnacle and other companies got the head start on LeoVegas as the first ones that were offering online betting for these types of tournaments.
In January, the brand announced that they would be launching a new payment system in Sweden, called Swish. At the moment, it serves as one of the most popular and widely used banking methods in the Nordic region.
“Faster than this, you cannot make your payments and we are living up to our epithet: ‘lightning-fast deposits’. In addition, customers are securely identified via BankID. The fact that 63% of all Swedes use Swish every week shows how popular Swish is, and it is therefore extra exciting that LeoVegas is now offering the favourite way of making payments in Sweden,” CEO of LeoVegas, Gustaf Hagman said about this new deposit method.
This payment method was originally established as a cooperation of the six largest banks in the country. It allows fast payments from bank s of the s. Swish has over 180,000 connected businesses and was one of the most recommended brands in Sweden during 2017 and 2018.
