Tobias Fagerlund has been confirmed as the president and CEO of Global Gaming by the company’s board of directors. The decision is going into effect immediately.
Global’s chairman, Peter Eidensjö, has said that the company, with pleasure and complete confidence, confirms Fagerlund as a new leading figure of this brand.
Fagerlund has occupied the position of CEO, in acting capacity, since April 29th …
…and his permanent appointment comes at a very difficult period for the company who is facing severe troubles in their homeland of Sweden, where the gambling regulator, Spelinspektionen, revoked their license.
Comments Eidensjö:
“His long experience of both the industry and change management, coupled with his deep understanding of our current situation and the fact he possesses the personal qualities required by the situation, clearly make him the right person to shoulder the great responsibility and challenge entailed by being the CEO of Global Gaming in the future.”
Fagerlund gave a thorough and a very decisive statement, his first after being named CEO:
“It is with confidence and humility that I have agreed to take on this role. I would have naturally preferred to be appointed under different circumstances, but I have no reservations in accepting it.
I have a great deal of faith in Global Gaming and stand by what I have said in recent weeks, the regulator’s decision to revoke our licences is incorrect and disproportionate. We are confident that we are compliant with the requirements of the Swedish legislation, and I have faith in the judicial process and look forward to its outcome.”
The newly appointed CEO elaborated by saying that the current situation is damaging the company…
…as well as its customers, employees and about 6,000 shareholders for every day that goes by. He vowed that he and his team will do everything in their power to restore as much confidence as possible, “in order to be able to offer their brands to customers in Sweden again soon.”
Spelinspektionen’s decision to annul Global Gaming’s license in Sweden will not go down without a fight…
…as the operator announced they will file an official complaint against the revocation imposed by the regulatory body. The punishment has been enforced against one of their Maltese subsidiaries, SafeEnt.
Global has deemed the decision, based on “serious deficiencies” discovered in brand’s operations, unexpected. The regulator explained their decision by stressing out that the operator has violated some of the most central parts of the game law aimed at protecting the player against excessive gambling.
“SafeEnt has described what measures it intends to take to correct the deficiencies, but the Spelinspektionen considers that the measures are not sufficient, and notes that SafeEnt lacks understanding of important parts of the regulations that govern the operations,” reads Spelinspektionen’s statement

That Sweden’s decision seems a bit harsh, but who knows. They may be in the right. We’ll see what good the appeal will do, if any.
