AGA Survey Reveals Growing Acceptance of Casino Gaming and Sports Betting Among Americans

American Gaming Association (AGA) reveals that Americans are increasingly viewing casino gaming and sports betting as both acceptable and responsible forms of entertainment. This survey comes at a pivotal moment, ahead of the Responsible Gaming Education Month in September, and just as the seventh NFL season with widespread legal sports betting kicks off.

Growing Trust in the Gaming Industry

A significant highlight from the survey is the growing trust Americans have in the gaming industry. Seventy-five percent of respondents believe that the gaming industry behaves responsibly in the communities where it operates.

This is a notable increase that reflects a shift in public perception, indicating that more Americans are recognizing the positive impact that legal, regulated gaming can have on local communities.

Additionally, the survey shows that 9 in 10 Americans now view sports betting as an acceptable form of entertainment, a clear indication of the increasing mainstream acceptance of this activity. Furthermore, 75% of Americans the legalization of sports betting in their home states, demonstrating widespread approval of the expansion of legal sports wagering.

“These latest survey results highlight a consistent trend over the years: as gaming expands to new audiences, Americans increasingly see the benefits of a legal, regulated gaming marketplace that contributes to communities, prioritizes responsibility, and provides unmatched entertainment,” said Joe Maloney, AGA Senior Vice President, Strategic Communications.

One of the most encouraging findings of the survey is the increased confidence among Americans regarding the gaming industry’s commitment to responsible gaming. The survey reveals that 65% of Americans now believe that the gaming industry is committed to encouraging responsible gaming and combating problem gambling. This represents a significant rise from 55% in the previous year, reflecting the industry’s ongoing efforts to promote responsible gaming practices.

This sentiment is even stronger among those who engage directly with the industry. The survey shows that 81% of physical casino players and 88% of sports bettors agree that the industry is committed to responsible gaming, up from 70% and 78% respectively last year. This growing confidence underscores the effectiveness of the industry’s initiatives to promote responsible gaming and protect its customers.

Responsible Marketing and Advertising Efforts

Americans are also noticing the industry’s responsible marketing and advertising efforts. The survey indicates that 65% of respondents believe the gaming industry is truthful in its marketing and advertising, a significant increase from 58% last year. Additionally, 73% view the industry as responsible in its marketing practices, up from 68% in 2022. These findings suggest that the industry’s efforts to market its products responsibly are resonating with the public.

The survey also highlights the effectiveness of the gaming industry’s responsible gaming programs. According to the data, 66% of Americans believe that these programs are effective, up from 59% last year. Among those who participate in gaming, the belief in the effectiveness of these programs is even higher, with 79% of physical casino players and 85% of sports bettors agreeing that these initiatives are successful. This demonstrates that the gaming industry’s efforts to promote responsible gaming are not only being noticed but are also making a tangible impact.

Increased Awareness of Responsible Gaming Resources

Another key finding from the survey is the increased awareness of responsible gaming resources. The survey shows that 76% of Americans are now familiar with at least one responsible gaming resource, an increase from 65% in 2022.

This awareness is particularly high among those who participate in gaming, with 92% of land-based players and 96% of sports bettors familiar with at least one responsible gaming resource. This rise in awareness is a positive sign that the industry’s efforts to promote responsible gaming are reaching a wider audience.

“The gaming industry’s responsibility efforts are stronger than ever, and consumers are noticing,” continued Maloney. “As we embark on another Responsible Gaming Education Month, we’re more energized than ever to continue our work to give consumers the legal, safe, and fun gaming experiences that they want and deserve.”

The results of the AGA’s survey paint a promising picture of the future of gaming in America. With increasing public trust in the industry’s commitment to responsibility and growing acceptance of gaming as a mainstream form of entertainment, the industry is well-positioned to continue its growth in the coming years.
