Swedish Gambling Regulator Looks for License Verification Partner

Swedish Gambling Regulator Looks for License Verification Partner

Spelinspektionen, a Swedish regulatory body for the online gambling market, recently launched a public tender…

…through which it is seeking for a license verification partner.

Fast-Growing Swedish Market

It seems that the country regulator needs help when it comes to ing operators. Each operator has to go through a procedure when applying for licenses to offer their services in Sweden

…and their number is growing more and more each month.

Since the regulator can’t manage such a huge number of applicants, the potential partner would have to help out.

What Will the New Partner Do?

According to the tender, main tasks of the verification partner would be to collect information on a group structure of the applicants, all needed information regarding the companies and ownership image…

…including the composition of boards, senior executives and the applicant’s physical addresses.

The regulator didn’t say anything about the number of investigations that would have to be carried out, but will probably be around 50.

Also, the new partner would have the task to go through existing Swedish licensees and the identities of owners and senior executives at those companies.

Stricter Market Rules

Ever since the Swedish government decided to launch a newly-regulated online gambling market at the very beginning of 2019…

…Spelinspektionen was very active and serious when it comes to doing its job.

The regulator issued a large number of initiatives in order to stand in the way of illegal and unlicensed gambling activities in the country.

Spelinspektonen penalized companies like Aspire Global, Genesis Gaming and Paf Consulting because they failed to comply with the rules relating to the Swedish self-exclusion scheme.

Last month, the regulator also issued warnings to many operators that were offering sports betting options for the matches that feature players under the age of 18.

It is also planning to stand in the way of excessive advertising and is collaborating with the Gaming Market Commission (Spelmarknadsutredningen) in the process while thinking of the possibility of a blanket ban.

g MoU with Gibraltar’s Ministry

Spelinspektionen recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Gibraltar Ministry of Commerce’s Gambling Division (GGD).

Via this agreement, the two parties will cooperate on various projects…

…and this memorandum will help them to establish the provisions for sharing the information on matters of mutual interest, as well as on policy areas.

Both gambling authorities have also made a deal to continuously give operational assistance to one another.

This new agreement between the two regulatory bodies makes sense for both of them because a very large number of operators and suppliers that have recently received a license to operate in the Swedish market also have the technical equipment and a license in Gibraltar.

A Word from Director General

“By opening the communication channels between the authorities we become stronger in our supervisory activities,” Director general of Spelinspektionen, Camilla Rosenberg, said about this new deal.

“This is the beginning of a broad and long-term cooperation. Earlier this year we entered an MoU with Malta Gaming Authority and our plan is to initiate corresponding collaborations with more gambling authorities in Europe,” she added.
